Yes, it’s critical for you to be Baptized. Don’t wait, be baptized immediately. Many people make a decision to follow Jesus, but their hearts aren’t in it, and they don’t obey the Lord Jesus’ command to be Baptized into his name. Such people seldom if ever have any success in their Christian lives. They soon forget the decision to follow Jesus and fade away.
Baptism is a public statement that a person has decided to be a Disciple of Jesus. It is also a sacrament, by which we participate in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Consider this:
Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.. Romans 6:3-5 NIV
To be clear, you are being Baptized into Jesus. In doing so, you participate in his death, burial and resurrection! You are not being baptized into a Church. You are not being baptized into a Denomination. You are uniting with Christ in Baptism, your public confession of faith in him. Baptism is an outward and visible sign of that inward and spiritual transformation that took place in you when you followed Jesus.
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 NIV
Now that you have repented, that is, turned away from yourself and your sin, and you have believed in Jesus Christ to follow Him as savior and Lord, you need to be Baptized.
The Word Baptize is Greek for “to immerse.” Be sure, when you are Baptized that it is done by immersion in a tank, or a lake or a pool so that you can be submerged completely under the water. Don’t be afraid, it’s harmless and only takes a minute. When you rise up out of the water, you will live a new life in the power of God’s Holy Spirit.
